Yummy Granola

Every granola mom should have a recipe or two for the yummy goodness.

My journey as a granola mom is really not about granola but I do happen to love the stuff. I have not always been crunchy. Its been a progression over the last few years. Some days I am "crunchier" than other days. I started cloth diapering my son when he was 13 months, started with my daughter when she was a newborn. Now we are almost done with cloth diapers as she is in underwear during the daytime. I love to cook and enjoyed making my kids baby food. I have enjoyed my nursing relationships with my kids. Hayden weaned at 17 1/2 months and Gabrielle still enjoys a quiet nursing from time to time. I liked wearing my babes in a wrap or sling. I feel strongly that women should be allowed to birth how they want, our bodies are amazing, too many women believe they can't do it without interventions and medicine. I love that more and more women are standing up and saying Birth is Normal, its not a disease! So I've barley scratched the surface here with a few topics here that are near and dear to my heart, I'm sure I'll revisit them.

Here is the Granola Recipe this was given to me by my grandmother and tweaked by me:

Granola
6 Cups Rolled Oats
1 Cup Coconut (I prefer unsweetened)
1 Cup Wheat Germ
1/2 Cup Sunflower seeds
3/4 Cup Cashews or Almonds (I sometimes do both)
1/2 Cup Oil
1/2 Cup Honey
1/3 Cup Water
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 Cup raisins, currants or dried cranberries

In a large bowl combine first 5 ingredients, mix together liquid salt and vanilla. Stir together well to coat. Spread on baking sheet(s) Bake at 350 for 30 minutes stirring frequently. Cool. Add dried fruit.

Makes 10 cups
